MMP Group – achieving excellence in training services using Promethean interactive whiteboard technology
As part of the award winning MMP Group, Total Training Solutions Limited (TTS) recognised a need to provide state of the art training facilities in keeping with the Group’s reputation for achieving excellence through a well trained and knowledgeable workforce.
What was Needed?
The training facility was initially developed for MMP to train its own employees, predominantly in health and safety. The company, which is one of the leading companies in the northern construction market, needed a presentation solution that, as well as being state of the art, was easy to install and use, and durable enough to withstand daily use by a large number of trainers and trainees.
Glyn Neasham, health, safety and training manager for the MMP Group explains: “Our requirements were fairly specific as we wanted to use the facility to offer training services to other companies, colleges, and schools in the region. We had to get the technology right first time.”
The Solution
TTS looked to its local AV reseller, KBR, for advice, and they immediately set up a demonstration of the Promethean Presenta board.
The Presenta board is a simple to use interactive whiteboard, supplied with Px software. The Presenta board, which becomes a digital display when connected to a computer, enables users to control the PC using a wireless pen at the board. Key to the functionality of the board is its Px software, an electronic ‘pencil case’ which enables presenters to ‘write’ directly onto the board with the wireless pen, and use the software to annotate, highlight and other wise manipulate presentation material.
All electronic flipchart material can then be saved as a PDF to enable file sharing and re-use at a later date.
Mr Neasham continues: “Once we saw the Presenta board we knew it was the right interactive solution for us. Promethean technology has a proven track record in schools so we knew the boards would be tough enough for our training facility and we felt that due to the intuitiveness of the software, we could be up and running with it in no time at all.”
The Verdict
Mr Neasham praises the technology: “Following the excellent support we received from both KBR and Promethean AV Distribution, we already now use the boards for all theory based training for our own employees and those of other construction companies in the region. In the next ten to fifteen years, we believe all training in the construction industry will be conducted interactively and we are leading the way.
“The feedback from trainers and trainees alike has been fantastic. Our trainers are able to save their material for review or use at a later date and the interactive element of the courses has helped the trainees take on board the necessary information they need.
“The problem we now have is that many of our senior managers want to use the boards for their own meetings as well!”
